Install Firefox Extension

Enjoy the open web with natural, hyper-realistic AI text-to-speech. While Mozilla Firefox features privacy controls and Reader View support, the Audeus Firefox Add-on provides an advanced, distraction-free reading experience. It includes ultra-lifelike voices, adjustable listening speeds up to 3.5x, custom highlighters, and instant cross-device position sync.

With native integrations for popular tools and real-time syncing with our Android App and iOS App, you can easily manage your reading library across all your devices.

Step-by-Step Installation for Mozilla Firefox

Adding the add-on is simple, but ensuring it is visible on your browser bar is key to a smooth workflow.

Step 1: Download from Firefox Add-ons (AMO)

  1. Open your Firefox browser and head to the Audeus Firefox Add-on Page.
  2. Click the blue Add to Firefox button.
  3. In the confirmation dialog pop-up, click Add to authorize.

Step 2: Pin to your Toolbar

Firefox automatically hides new extensions under the extension puzzle icon. To keep the Audeus icon pinned:

  1. Tap the Extensions icon (puzzle piece symbol) in the upper-right corner of your browser.
  2. Locate Audeus in the list.
  3. Click the Gear icon next to the name and select Pin to Toolbar. The blue Audeus logo will now remain visible on your toolbar.

Step 3: Manage Extension Permissions

To configure how Audeus interacts with your web pages, you can adjust the extension's permissions settings:

  1. Click the Extensions icon (puzzle piece symbol) in the upper-right corner.
  2. Select the Gear icon next to Audeus and click Manage Extension. (Alternatively, type about:addons in the address bar and click Audeus in the Extensions manager).
  3. Select the Permissions tab.
  4. Choose your preferred access level:
    • Option A: Minimal Permissions (Only on Click): Turn OFF the "Access your data for all websites" toggle. Audeus will only load its player automatically on Audeus.com and Google Docs. For other sites, it remains inactive until you manually click the toolbar icon.
    • Option B: Full Access: Turn ON the "Access your data for all websites" toggle. This allows the Audeus floating handle to automatically slide onto supported articles as you browse.

Note: For privacy-conscious users, you can also toggle on the Run in Private Windows permission at the bottom of the details page to use Audeus during Private Browsing.

  • Google Docs: Integrates natively within your workspace tabs for editing and listening.
  • Gmail & Outlook: Renders direct audio buttons in your inbox, reading your text with standard inline highlight tracking.
  • AI Assistance (ChatGPT & Gemini): Listens to chatbot responses with dedicated play buttons added next to the AI output.
  • Reddit Threads: Groups comments and posts sequentially for easy thread parsing.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Audeus work in Firefox Private Browsing? Yes, but you must enable it first. Open about:addons in your browser address bar, click Audeus, scroll to the bottom, and select Allow next to Run in Private Windows.

Does the Firefox extension read web text automatically without manual highlights? Yes! You do not need to highlight or select text. When you press play, Audeus automatically filters page clutter—like sidebars, menu bars, and footer advertisements—to isolate and read the main article text from beginning to end.

Can I read PDF files using this Firefox extension? To listen to PDFs, books, or ePub files, upload them directly to your personal library using the Audeus Web Reader or our mobile apps (iOS App / Android App). Your listening progress and highlights will sync automatically across all your devices.

How do I temporarily disable the Audeus player on a website? If you want to hide the floating pill on specific domains (like banking portals or internal dashboards):

  1. Click the Audeus icon on your Firefox toolbar to open the settings popup.
  2. Select the Disabled Sites tab.
  3. Toggle the switch to disable the player for the active domain, or enter URLs manually.

Do I need to pay to use Audeus on Firefox? Audeus provides free access to all our standard text-to-speech voices. Access to ultra-lifelike AI voices is capped under a daily limit for free accounts. You can upgrade to Audeus Pro inside the extension settings menu to get full access to premium voices without daily caps.
