Scan Photos and Physical Materials
Not every document starts as a PDF. Whiteboards, lecture slides, storybooks, textbooks, and printed handouts become listen-ready audio when you scan or photograph them in Audeus. Optical Character Recognition (OCR) extracts the text so you can play it aloud on the Web Reader or mobile app.
Whiteboards and Class Lectures
Snap a photo of a whiteboard after a brainstorm, or capture slides and notes from a lecture. Audeus turns those images into a single library document you can replay later.
This flow is especially useful for students reviewing class material and professionals capturing meeting boards or workshop notes on the go.
Storybooks and Physical Books
Photograph pages from a printed storybook or physical book when you do not have a digital file. Multi-page scans compile into one document so you can listen chapter by chapter.
Book lovers and readers often use this to listen to print editions, library books, or pages that are not available as an EPUB or PDF.
Textbooks and Handouts
Scan textbook chapters, worksheets, and course handouts to build a custom listening library for study sessions. Double-column academic layouts are supported by the OCR engine.
Researchers and students use this to listen through dense print materials without retyping or hunting for a digital copy.
How to Scan on Mobile
The Audeus mobile app (guides for iOS and Android) acts as a pocket document scanner:
- Tap the Add (plus) icon on the mobile library screen.
- Select Scan document to open the camera, or Upload photos to import from your camera roll.
- Capture one or more pages. You can reorder, rotate, or delete pages before saving.
- Save to compile the images into a library document. Audeus processes the text automatically so you can press play.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need perfect lighting? Bright, even lighting and a flat page produce the best results. Audeus can still read angled or lower-light photos, but clearer captures improve accuracy.
Can I scan multiple pages into one document? Yes. Capture pages in sequence on mobile, then reorder or remove pages in the document creator before you save.
Does this work for handwritten notes? Yes, when the writing is legible. See Handwriting Recognition with OCR for a notes-focused walkthrough.
Can I listen to scanned pages on the Web Reader after I scan on mobile? Yes. After the document saves to your library, open it on the Audeus Web Reader or another device. Sync keeps the same file available across your account. See Sync Documents Across Devices.
Which materials work best for OCR? Printed textbooks, handouts, storybooks, and clear whiteboard photos work well. Dense handwriting has its own guide under Handwriting Recognition with OCR.
